Regardless of whether you choose to admit it or not, money has a way of running our lives. The availability of money and the lack of it, controls where we live, the kind of jobs that we have, the friends we keep and can also go as far as controlling our moods and whether we feel happy or not at any particular time. Despite these issues you should make sure that you aren’t controlled by how much you earn. Some of these tips can help you control money and save yourself.

Overcome destructive money habits:

No one is perfect with money, occasionally or frequently we tend to spend money on things that we ordinarily shouldn’t. But it gets to a certain time where such spending habits end up digging a grave of debt that may land us in serious trouble in the future.

In order to control spending habits, it is essential to take the first step and set a budget. After this, a serious commitment should be made to stick to this budget. Creating a spending plan is a wonderful way of determining where your money is going to, it also equips you with the better information that you need to spend your money wisely and to keep your expenses within your financial means.

Deal with your envy and greed:

So what if your car is ten years old? Do you like it? Be honest now. Chances are it feels much like an old pair of sneakers – comfortable. Don’t go trading in that old reliable friend just because your neighbor got a brand new car – on a loan for that matter! Every time you feel the urge to make a purchase, you should ask yourself if you’re making the purchase because it’s needed or because someone else has it. It’s great to have nice stuff but trying to keep up with everyone around you can land you deeper into debt than is really necessary. You really should go over your reasons for trying to keep up with everybody else and picking up negative spending habits.

Resist the strong pull of today’s culture of possession as an obsession:

It isn’t usually an easy thing to decide not to purchase that new television set or that leather couch when you’re surrounded with so much advertising.
